SPANISH 1B: Students will continue to develop their Spanish proficiency through extensive interaction in the target language. Each unit includes a variety of interactive activities, cultural notes, and cultural interviews. The activities help build competency in each of the four language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The primary objective of my class is for you to not only learn Spanish well enough to be successful when going on to the next level but also to learn in a fun, relaxed environment and to develop an appreciation of the Spanish language and culture for life-long use and enjoyment.
6th Grade Spanish: My goal is for you to acquire Spanish. “Acquiring” a language is different from “learning.” Acquiring happens to you as you listen to the language and gradually begin using it. That is why I want to spend nearly all of the class time speaking Spanish.Your speaking and writing skills will develop naturally as you listen and read. I am focusing on what is called “comprehensible input” and using the Immediate Immersion curriculum. In class, we will be working on the acquisition of high frequency words and structures. I will assess you on the target structures. We will use these words and structures in class discussions, stories, and cultural explorations. You will be expected to recognize them when you read or hear them, and, in time, be able to produce them in speech and writing.
